Infrastructure
Task Force Chair
Let us know about an infrastructure related laboratory or project at your Engineering School. We will publish it in this page and will invite other Jesuit Engineering Schools to contact you.
"Urban mobility in the perspective of Integral ecology & digitalisation"
The goal is to grow together and empower our Engineering Schools by mutual collaboration, so we are able to elaborate and participate in meaningful infrastructure projects.
We want to share knowledge, good engineering practices, research methodologies and laboratory resources.

Areas of interest
1. Structural engineering
Sharing modeling techniques and research methodologies to design and build earthquake resistant houses and infrastructure.
UCA at El Salvador is researching the structural design of low income housing, built with local materials, in order to improve its earthquake resistance.
Wall of a typical house in El Salvador tested at UCA laboratory. The wall had sensors to measure its deformation due to an applied quasi static cyclic load
UCA at El Salvador has a laboratory research facility and they offer to IAJES engineering schools the folowing:
Share experiences, research methodologies and good laboratory practices.
Advice and guide engineering schools that are interested in build a similar laboratory in their campuses.
A time lapse video of a wall being tested can be seen here
The load on the wall is slowly incremented in a cyclic way (pushing and pulling) until the wall fails.
If you want to know more about this project, you can contact Nicolas Rincon: nicolas.rincon@javeriana.edu.co
2. Smart cities, logistics and sustainable transport networks.
Sharing research methodologies, good practices and tools to analyze and optimize the logistic networks that a city needs to achieve quality of living, with emphasis in public transportation networks.
Smart cities make use of digital technologies in conjunction with traditional infrastructure to provide solutions to the challenges that cities are facing. This involves understanding new technologies and training human capital to be able to develop new forms of governance that use the knowledge produced by understanding and employing models and methods with data that are available in cities.
Smart infrastructure could make use of Big Data, Open Data, Cloud Computing, Scalable Arquitecture, Sensors and Artificial Intelligence.
Nicolás Rincón is working with the Masters Program in Logistics and Transport in the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana at Bogota, Colombia.
An observatory for public transportation is being developed to understand how the population moves with current and proposed infrastructure. This information is used to make recommendations regarding the required improvements in the public transportation network system that can lead o is optimization and reduction of commuting times. Additionally, transport infrastructure for different modes and freight transport policies are being studied.
Pontificia Universidad Javeriana at Bogotá offers to IAJES engineering schools the following:
Technical advise and guidance to implement a public transportaion/infrastructure observatory in their country.
Sharing good practices in freight transportation.
Sharing the developed tools.
Collaboration to develop new tools.
For more information you can contact Nicolás Rincón: nicolas.rincon@javeriana.edu.co
3. Drinking water
We want to develop projects aimed to provide drinking water to remote communities. Your expertise and involvement in this area is appreciated and needed. If you have questions or want to get involved please contact andres.torres@javeriana.edu.co
